At this point I also replaced the troublesome IVAC hoses, which commonly suffer from perishing on these, for new braided hose. The Ram air ducts which mount to the air box are also troublesome with age, as they turn brittle, so these were replaced for new OE items whilst in there. The plastic quick release fuel connectors onto the petrol tanks were an early recall item for these, which most owners didnt have rectified and become a problem in later life for the bikes, these have now been replaced for the updated metal items. Poor batteries on the Daytonas can cause damage to the sprag clutch on the started motor, which requires the engine to be stripped right down to replace, to avoid this I have fitted a more powerful & reliable gel battery which has been kept on an optimate charger.
The original fairing fasteners were also replaced for new OE items to keep the bodywork looking tidy. Shortly after this I replaced the rear hub bearings, another common and expensive issue 955s succumb to. The Cush drive rubbers were replaced for OE items at the same time.
Just last year the bike had the headstock bearings replaced, along with a new DID X ring chain and replacement sprockets fitted. It has only done a few hundred miles since these were fitted.
The bike is completely standard, with the exception of the fuel filler cap and the front brake master cylinder and hoses. On purchasing the bike, the front brake was very poor.
To rectify this, the callipers were rebuilt with new seals, the hoses replaced for bespoke Venhill items and the master cylinder rebuilt. Unfortunately, this only partially rectified the problem. After some research it became apparent that the master cylinders on these are just not very good, so a radial mc from a zx10 was fitted and the brakes are now fantastic. The end can is an official triumph race kit carbon can. This is not too loud, however the stock road can is included with the bike. The bike is generally in good condition, especially for an 18 year old bike, however it does have the odd stone chip. The red bodywork hasn't faded at all and is still a great, deep colour, which is undamaged. Along with a few of the issues these bikes often have. One of the mirrors has a crack in the body, this is common as they do not fold in any way so any slight bump can damage them. As the lack of folding can be very inconvenient (narrow doors, alleys etc) I have replaced the fixings for wing bolts for easy removal. The air box cover does have a small split around a fixing, which is again quite common. The fuel tank is in excellent condition and has NOT blistered, which is very rare for Daytonas. The original tool kit is still with the bike.
The bike was MOTd on the 24.06.17 and has only done a few miles since. It has been fitted with new Michelin pilot road 2 tyres ready for the new owner. It also has a scottoiler fitted to make life easier maintaining the chain and sprockets and a small bottle of oil will be included to keep this topped up. The bike is in Peterborough.
